Levon Ekmekjian (or ‘Ekmekdjian, Levon’) A French national of Lebanese extraction. One of the Armenian terrorists who is responsible for the Esenboğa Airport Attack (7 August 1982). Nine people were dead and eighty-two injured seriously in the massacre. The dead included an American and a West German passenger. Levon Ekmekjian was the only surviving terrorist. He was arrested and sentenced. He admitted that he had an accomplice in the killing and that it had been planned for some time. When he was on the stand, he said "I came here motivated by belief, however, after this incident understand how ridiculous and wrong that belief was...." Ekmekjian was sentenced to death.
