Dr. Jørgen Johansen is currently a lecturer and faculty member at European Peace University. Main research interest is the theory and practice of nonviolence. Jorgen has conducted research and also taught seminars and training programmes in numerous countries including Israel, Mozambique, India and Chechnya.
He was International secretary of the Norwegian section of War Resisters International (WRI) 1976-79 and Norwegian representative in the WRI Council 1981-1991. From 1979 to 1984 he was editorial member of Ikkevold ("Nonviolence"). He was editor of the Nordic Ecophilosophical magazine Ringen 1981-84 and Co worker at The Tienanmen University of Democracy, 1990-93, Chairperson of War Resisters' International 1991-98, Board member of Civilian Based Defence Association 1992-94, Board member of the Institute for Peace Work and Nonviolent Struggle (in Germany) since 1992.
He has been a Teacher in Conflict Resolution, Peace Work and Mediation at Goeteborg University, Sweden, since 1995. Since 1998, he is a board member of The Norwegian Peace Center and The Norwegian Peace Council. Since 1990, he is a Member of the Danish Peace Academy.
Since 1975 he has been an invited participant to more than fifty international conferences. He has widely published on nonviolence as a philosophy and practical tool and given training workshops on nonviolence in many countries.
