Damla Aras is an academic specialising on security studies with special focus to the theories of coercion, its tailoring and execution especially by the medium-sized powers as well as Middle Eastern affairs with special focus on Turkish security, domestic and foreign policy. Damla Aras is also London representative of the USAK (International Strategic Research Organization), Review of International Law and Politics (RILP) and the Journal of Turkish Weekly. She gives lectures at King's College London, UK.

At the moment she is preparing her research Threat As A Peace-Maker: Turkey’s Coercive Diplomacy Towards Syria During the 1998 October Crisis for publishing as a book and co-editing a special issue for Defence Studies Journal on the use of coercive diplomacy by the medium-sized powers.
