The Turkish Ambassador to the Holy See, Vecdi Türel, is shot and seriously wounded in Rome on 17 April 1980. His chauffeur, Tahsin Güvenç, is also slightly wounded in the assassination attempt. JCAG claims responsibility for the attack.
